If a contract has a signer and cosigner and the cosigner has not signed is the contract valid?

i "bought" a car and gave 1400 down payment cash, and a trade for 800. the dealer let me take the car, with the promise of a cosigner. now the cosigner backed out and i have the car, can i return it to the dealer?
